Boreholes

Access to clean water is so easily taken for granted, but without it life is tough. Residents of two hamlets near Mivumoni had seen their boreholes fall into disrepair (probably through vandalism by outsiders), requiring a long hike to fetch water each day.

Using money raised in the UK, Fr Joe assisted the communities in having the boreholes restored to use and in setting up committees to maintain and protect these assets.

Michumgwani

Michumgwani lies about a kilometre north-west of Mivumoni church, although it's rather further by road, and from there you can glimpse the church on the hilltop. The borehole lies among the cashew nut trees.

Joe hopes that the school kids will be able to spend more time studying now they don't have to walk so far to fetch water.

Mwembeni lies another kilometre or so away from Mivumoni.

A generous gift from the community as thanks for raising the money to rehabilitate the boreholes.
